New Thoughts New Work
Hello Friends,
My name is Joey Goergen. I am an artist who has worked with clients like Pabst Blue Ribbon and bands like Heart Attack Man and Sunstroke. I have shown in galleries like MOCA Cleveland and as well as CEPA gallery in Buffalo New York.
Here is a new platform and deeper way to engage with my art practice and life.
I am going to keep this space open and free form to talk about things going on in my studio practice, things that I am up to, and just general stuff I like.
I started reading Patrick Kindlon’s newsletter about his comics and music and thought this would be a better way to be more in depth about what’s going on as a traverse my second year of graduate school and as I make deeper work. I need a space to type through my thoughts.
This is a snippet of a portrait I painted as an homage to one of my first mentors Dan Tranberg. He was inspiring and kept working with joy and wild abandon until he passed. His work and use of color is still a well I go visit often.
The work and ideas I am trying to grapple with are getting harder as more and more friends pass and the younger they seem to get. But recently I was on the road for two weeks and also was back home in Cleveland where I was reminded of the community and hidden world we of punk I live in. It’s offered me so many deeper connections than I think most people get in a lifetime. and that the work and thoughts of others is shared equally whether you’re in Bloomington, Chattanooga or right back in Buffalo. The shared love of sound and aesthetics is a forever type thing.
This is round one at this, they will get better.
Thank you for being here.
For you with love,
Joey
